Overview

Cuarteto Ricacosa is a string band, three guitars and a bass guitar, which play traditional ensemble of folk music from Uruguay. Their show goes through milongas, tangos, candombes and countryside folkmusic. They include instrumental and sung music featuring classics in the Tango´s repertoire and their own creations.

The group was born driven by the need to rescue the ancient culture of the lands of these regions, the African, the European, and their people, the indigenous ... the Creole crossbreeding. Along the way, Cuarteto Ricacosa gets on five occasions financial funds from the Uruguayan National Music Fund which allowed them to record their first CD, "Bien Parejito", as well as to buy sound equipment for the band and renew all their guitars.

¨Bien Parejito¨ album was released by the Ayuí-Tacuabé label in 2008 and won the Graffiti award for the best tango album in 2009. In January 2010 they recorded and edited the album¨ Cimarrón¨ with Ayuí Tacuabé, which also gets the Graffiti Award for the best tango album in 2011. In March 2011 Ricacosa presents a journey through his music on the biggest stage of their country, the main hall of the Teatro Solis. This show was recorded, filmed and edited and a DVD was released later in 2012 by Ayuí-Tacuabé.

After several shows in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, in June-July 2013 the band made anextensive tour around Colombia, Venezuela, Panama and Costa Rica, after being selected to perform in Medellin by Fund for Culture of Uruguay. In August 2014 they toured Norway, Denmark and Sweden and in September they participated in the International Festival of Tamaulipas (Mexico) acting across ten cities in that state. At the moment the band is preparingtheir third album.
